Lash Lifts vs Eyelash Extensions
What exactly is a Lash Lift? A Lash Lift is essentially a perm for your eyelashes; it sets the shape of your natural lashes using a chemical solution.
In the state of California ONLY licensed Cosmetologists and Barbers are legally allowed to perform this service. It is a common misconception that Estheticians are allowed to perform lash lifts.
These perming chemicals are harsh and can be very dangerous when used around the eye area causing irritation. If these chemicals come in contact with the eye they can cause major irritation and even blindness.
Although lash lifting is legal in the state of California, lash tinting is not.
According to the California Board of Barbering and Cosmetology, “The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) maintains that there are no color additives approved by FDA for permanent dyeing or tinting of the eyelashes or eyebrows.” The FDA also has an Import Alert in effect for eyelashes and eyebrow dyes containing coal-tar colors. Coal-tar dyes have been found to cause irritation, blindness, and more if they come in contact with the eyes.
The FDA refers to coal-tar as, “a severe hazard to health with the possibility of permanent injury.”
